Robot Vision with VIRO 3D for Seeing, Picking up and Simultaneously Inspecting
VITRONIC uses 3D robot vision in a similar manner to its VIRO 2D robot vision application. Machine vision can again involve the combination of several demanding tasks — the robot vision solution VIRO 3D can be used to see, pick up and simultaneously inspect objects, and can even be tailored to customer-specific needs.
VIRO 3D enables the use of robot vision for picking up or putting down components or objects with complex shapes, a completely undefined position or even changing surface properties, such as supple pouches, as well as non-structurally-stable components such as setting trays.
All positional coordinates, including the rotation angle, can be determined in both the pick-up and the put-down position and used for the robot application.
When using the VIRO 3D for objects with different sizes, object properties and surface properties, industrial handling tasks can be conducted with a greater level of automation, and therefore with enhanced efficiency and lower costs.
For example, input and output shafts and gear wheels are stacked on setting trays to be hardened. These trays are specially designed for these workpieces and hold their individual shapes to ensure maximum workpiece handling for transportation. After being stacked with the components, the setting trays are moved through hardening furnaces. Each time they pass through a hardening furnace, the three-dimensional, geometric deformation of the setting tray and its grid becomes more severe, meaning that these expensive pallets have to be replaced after every few runs. The VIRO 3D uses machine vision to supply all six degrees of freedom for each component and its position so that the setting tray can be automatically loaded and unloaded despite the continual changes to its shape.
