The Machine Vision People Helping Others
Last month, Christian Düsing, Traffic Project Manager, volunteered in Sulawesi, Indonesia, to help victims of the tsunami and earthquake that occurred in September. VITRONIC's management was so moved by Christian's dedication and commitment to help those less fortunate, that they decided to support and contribute to his efforts by partially financing his time off.
The local helpers describe the consequences of the natural disaster as devastating and beyond all expectations. All that remains of houses, schools and hospitals are rubble and ruins. Entire villages have perished. According to estimates by the Indonesia National Agency for Disaster Management, some 68,000 houses were destroyed or damaged by the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami. More than 2,000 people lost their lives and at least 680 are still missing. In addition, around 80,000 inhabitants of Central Sulawesi were displaced by the natural disaster.
